Standardization Management, Guidance & Assurance (SMGA) Organisation
The SMG&A division in Abbey Wood is responsible for providing Advice, Guidance (AG) and Technical Assurance (TA) to all associated with the acquisition process within the MOD.
The AG is based around the practical issues of Standardization Management (SM) and can be tailored to meet individual project and customer requirements and takes into consideration interoperability along with commonality, interchangeability & compatibility. The AG is supported by a comprehensive set of documentation, two documents of note being ‘A Guide to Addressing Standardization Management’ and a Standardization Management Plan’ (SMP) which is a tailorable document and requires the project to plan for SM as a through life process.
The divisions approach to TA is based upon the DE&S Scrutiny and Approvals process and the Standardization Management KPI’s. It focuses upon a ‘tailored’ approach to the use of the KPI’s which are deemed most appropriate to the specified project. Additionally it centres on the DE&S values of a ‘light touch’, ‘customer pull’ and ‘through life assurance’ aspects.
The division are also the owners and manage the Standardization page on the Acquisition Operating Framework (AOF) where the majority of the A&G documentation can be found.
The Standardization Management Functional Competence, MSt1, is also managed by the division who are able to provide workshops in support of the competence.
The division have a responsible for providing lectures/workshops to meet customer’s requirements in particular the library’s BS On Line Training course and have the responsibility for the interactive Standardization Topic as part of the Blended Learning project management training provided by DaLearning
